It goes without saying that New York City has no shortage of cool bars. The city is replete with them: dancing clubs, swanky cocktail bars, dives, and the ever-so-popular speakeasy. For the LGBTQ+ community, though, that packed list begins to look shockingly sparse. Amongst the community, those who identify as female are at even more of a loss. Over 200 lesbian bars used to dot the U.S. bar scene—a number that has dwindled down to the less than 25 still standing today.

That’s where grotto comes in, a new sapphic cocktail bar concept with a focus on warm community, delicious drinks and a beautiful space. The first iteration of grotto was found in collaboration with Soho House, from January-April, 2023. We’ve also been fortunate enough to work with Brooklyn’s first women-owned and women-operated brewery, TALEA, the Rockefeller Center’s Pebble Bar, and with Bar Casino from May-June 2024. grotto hosts parties and special events each month, including a quarterly Sunday Tea Dance at the Ace Hotel’s Libera Bar.
